When you try to get a mortgage, your promise that you're “good for it” just isn't enough! No matter where you go for your mortgage, you will be asked to supply supporting documents that back up what you say.
To speed up the process, it helps to know what sort of documents they're going to want to see.
When you schedule the meeting, you will probably be told what they need you to bring. If not, the following checklist will help you be prepared.

Here's the list of documents most lenders will want in order to process your mortgage application (copies are usually okay). |

|
Earnings statements: W-2 forms, recent pay stubs and tax returns for the past two years |
|
If you are self-employed: profit and loss statements and tax returns for current year and the past two years |
|
Additional income: overtime bonus, commission, interest income, veteran's benefit, etc. |
|

|
Banks statements for each of your checking and savings accounts for the previous two to three months |
|
List of savings bonds, stocks or investments and their approximate market values |
|
Titles to any motor vehicles you own. |
|

|
Credit card bills for the past few billing periods |
|
Other debt such as car loans, student loans and other personal and cosigned installment loans with creditor addresses and phone numbers |
|
Additional income: overtime bonus, commission, interest income, veteran's benefit, etc. |
|
Copies of alimony or child support. |
|

Copy of the ratified purchase contract |
|
If you made a “good faith” deposit to the seller of the house, bring a copy of canceled check. |
|
|
|
If you don't have an established credit history, supply the lender with canceled checks for rent, utilities and other recurring obligations to show payment history.
Having these items on hand when you visit the lender will help speed up the application process. |
